Meet the songwriter and banjo rocker with a touch of twang

“She has the goods.” –Music Row Magazine

With a mother who performed with John Hartford and the Dillards, a dad who taught her banjo, and a cousin, Al Barr, who fronts the Dropkick Murphys, being on stage is in Lockwood’s DNA. Lockwood Barr logs over 100 yearly shows all over the country and world. She’s opened for artists like Clint Black, Chase Matthew, Radney Foster, Lori McKenna, and Angaleena Presley (Pistol Annies), played festivals from Arizona to Mississippi to Denmark, and regularly hosts rounds at the Bluebird Cafe.

Lockwood released a new record, One Day I Will, in Winter 2025 with award-winning producer Devin Powers. She has been writing new music with icon Jeff Silbar (“Wind Beneath My Wings”) and Hall of Fame songwriter Gary Nicholson for the project. The project’s song “Tornado Tree,” written by Silbar and Powers, won a 2025 Hollywood Independent Music Award.

Lockwood is also thrilled to have a songwriting cut on Allie Colleen’s new record, “Nicotine,” which debuted on WSM in February 2025 and has already been a fan favorite during Allie’s tours with Lee Brice and Jelly Roll. Additional recent cuts include “One Two Step,” recorded by Canadian Warner Music artist Chris Buck and featured in his live sets while touring with Thomas Rhett; “Blood Money,” recorded by Tyler Reese Tritt; and “Heartbreak Queen,” released by Kensie Coppin. Her banjo and background vocals can be heard on Bo Bice’s latest release, “Hero’s Blood,” tracked at Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals.  The song won a 2024 Hollywood Independent Music Award.

Other successes include a 2019 Music Row Magazine “DISClaimer” feature for her banjo-centric single “6 Feet Deep,” a NIMA (Nashville Industry Music Award) win for Best Live Country Performer, and a cut (“Hold Me in Your Heart”) on Sarah Peacock’s record Burn the Witch, which was acclaimed in both Billboard and American Songwriter. Lockwood’s Summer 2020 single, “Helluva Habit,” received an exclusive feature in American Songwriter.

In 2019, she teamed up with Matt Odmark of Grammy Award-winning band Jars of Clay and newcomer Ryan Youmans to release three new singles, including an original Christmas duet, “Christmas in Memphis,” with The Voice alum Barrett Baber. “Christmas in Memphis” was hailed by Saving Country Music, alongside Kacey Musgraves’ A Very Kacey Christmas, as one of the top country and roots Christmas releases.
